Halloween and the City

I'm sure my mom is so proud of my Halloween costume this year! (Sorry Mom, don't tell Grandma!)

My girlfriends and I went as a 'PG' version of the 4 New York City girls from Sex and the City.

We had Miranda the lawyer played by Shiloh, Charlotte the Park Ave Princess was eloquently played by Sonya, my cousin Amy went as the saucy Samantha, and I dressed up as Carrie.

We had a blast, even if most people didn't "get" our costume right away. It was fun to dress up and enjoy a night out.

Saturday Night Fever

Saturday night I went to the Rockies game with Shiloh and Sonya and three other guys. We had a blast and the weather was absolutely perfect! It's always fun to meet new people and these guys were hilarious and were just out to have fun and they were excellent company (considering none of us girls knew them very well. ) After the game we headed over to a small bar to play shuffle board and eat, followed by some dancing at one of our favorite spots!
Also, Elie and I had a special date on Sunday afternoon. We went to the mall to get ice cream and enjoyed numerous escalator rides and the coin operated rides. I gave her some Curious George stickers and every single one ended up on the front of her dress, but she loved it and it kept her entertained all day. We headed to the park so she could feed the ducks, but none of them were interested in our food. Oh well. Funny story: I was buckling her in her carseat and she says to me, "Good job Kari, you did it all by yourself." What heartfelt praise I received!

Watch Out! Single Ladies on the Loose!

This weekend we celebrated Abby's final weeks of singleness! She's getting married in 4 weeks and we took her out for the day on Saturday to bid farewell to her days of flying solo. You could call it a bachelorette party, but we did not allow any feather boas, awkward games, dollar bills, or a tiara's. It was good clean fun! :)

Our original destination was Grand Lake since Abby loves that area, but about 45 minutes into our drive we had only covered 5 miles on the interstate, so we took the exit to Evergreen, and figured we could do all the same stuff there that we would do in GL.

Here's a quick snapshot of our day:

Funky, spunky, and totally hunky

What a fun weekend I had!! No wonder I struggle to focus at work because I know I have great weekend plans and have so much to look forward to all the time! By the way, I finally posted my Thanksgiving pictures, so scroll down to check those out!

Friday night I had a random date with a guy I met in Dillon last weekend. He is originally from Poland and works as a lawyer here in Denver, so it was fun to learn about another culture and profession. There probably won't be a second date since I doubt we have the same faith, but it's fun to try new restaurants with new people.

Saturday night the girls and I ventured out again. We checked out this dive bar downtown and enjoyed some live music. My friend Shiloh has befriended the bass player and we got to watch him in action. The music was all 70s funk and we danced a ton and mingled with the crowd and band. Check out our pictures from the evening!!

More Margaritas?!?!

Last night my dear friends Gretch, Jen, Jenny, Bonnie, Manda, and I went to a local little Mexican restaurant for chips 'n salsa, margs, and dinner. What was I thinking planning this restaurant just a few days after getting back from Mexico?? Am I crazy? However, it did taste good, especially the chips and margs. Yum! Gotta love American dining. Nothing beats it - haha!

Girls Gone Wild - Cancun 2007!

We're back! We survived the water, the food, the drinks, and the ocean! Yay for us! Abby, Shiloh and I went to Cancun Oct 31 - Nov 5 and had a BLAST. I am trying to match the font to the color of the Caribbean!

Wednesday:
We arrived at the airport at 7am with many large suitcases in hand. Shiloh managed to keep the Big Daddy suitcase under 50 lbs and Abby won the prize for packing the lightest. We boarded Frontier with a gleam in our eyes and exchanged mischievous grins as we wondered what would await our arrival. We were greeted with a little rain (the only bit of moisture we saw the whole time). Our shuttle ushered us to the Royal Solaris and we were ready to dive in. However, we really didn't eat anything that day and couldn't wait for dinner. Our hotel greeter told us they had a Halloween show and dinner from 8:30-10:30pm that night, so we showered, dressed, relaxed, and got ready for our first experience. Unfortunately we were told the wrong time and got to the show two hours late, so we had to scarf down what few food items were remaining. I enjoyed my three bites of weird pork and a watermelon slice. Yum! The show was incredibly awful (watching the Mexican staff present Halloween while lip syncing to songs was hilarious). So we headed back to the lounge to enjoy cocktails and live music. We were quite tired, very hungry, and called it a night.

Thursday:
The pool and ocean welcomed us with open arms! Two gentlemen we met on the airplane made a surprise appearance at our pool to say hello as they passed. And Shiloh's parents stopped by to say hello. The party was in full swing! We soaked in the hot tub for a bit and it over looked the ocean for a perfect view! That evening we went to one of the restaurants for dinner at our hotel. The food improved slightly at that place - thank goodness. That night we danced it up (and sweated buckets) to the live music and made some new friends (who became our dance partners for the rest of the trip).

Friday:
Today we opted to try out the kayaks on the laguna side of our hotel. So we each grabbed one and started a very impossible battle of paddling into the current and wind, only be blown back downstream in two seconds. It was fun and it makes me want to buy a kayak next summer. We continued our usual tradition of lounging by the pool and ocean, taking random pictures of ourselves, and eating. That night we had dinner at Marco Polo at the hotel and enjoyed the best (best for Mexico that is) dessert! It was the highlight of the meal. We headed back to the lounge for the music and more dancing. Notice how our tans are improving each day!

Saturday:
Then we laid out by the pool, but then had aspirations to go shopping in town. We hopped the bus for $0.65 and went to La Isla. It was basically an Americanized shopping center with expensive stores. It was gorgeous though and nicely laid out. We had a recommendation from our flight attendant to eat at THAI, this delicious Thai restaurant on the Laguna. Each table was in its own hut and it was so cool!! The food was fantastic and a great change from the mediocre food we ate the past 3 days. We also found some cute shops and each purchased a few fun things. I love my new yellow dress and paparazzi sun glasses! :) I also found a cute little white beach skirt to wear with my swimsuit. That night we went back to the hotel to meet up with our friends (they were there for a destination wedding). We danced again and had a great time.

Sunday:
We began our morning with our usual breakfast with a fabulous view!! Check that out! We decided to head down to the ocean today to lay out. The pool scene is a little crazy and loud and the calming sound of the ocean was much better!! We took more silly pictures and just enjoyed our last full day in Cancun. That night we decided to check out a club and had quite the experience. Those Cancun people know how to party. It was a very crazy scene with lights, a live band, DJ, balloons, confetti, a Congo line...it just kept going and going! Non stop fun the whole night. We didn't get to bed until about 4am...so we were a tad tired the next day.

Monday:
Our last day :(
I got up early that day before my friends and enjoyed some last minute beach walking. I took in the ocean and waves and took a moment to just enjoy the beauty created for us. We had our last breakfast, paid a quick visit to the gift shop (nice hat huh), and headed to the airport via taxi. The second best meal of the week (aside from THAI) was a Domino's pizza that we shared in the terminal. It was so darn yummy!! We reminisced about our vacation while waiting 3 hours to depart. Then we attempted to sleep on our 4 hour flight home. Denver greeted us with a bit of a chill, but we wore our summer clothes with pride - just to make a statement that "we were on vacation".
Anyway, the highlights of our trip were summed up with swimwear, friends, and relaxing. We didn't tour anything and we didn't see much, but it was the perfect vacation for what we needed.

I came back a tanner, happier, refreshed Kari and that was well worth the trip.

Mom's of the Night :)

I love a good, quality ladies night that encompasses great food and fun drinks. Friday night our book club gang headed downtown. We had drinks at Samba Room and enjoyed a variety of Mojitos and then had dinner at Wazee Supper Club. Between the Cuban bar and swanky pizza diner, we were in for a treat. We had a great time...a lot of laughs...and more bonding!
